Overview

Waste Connections is seeking a high-energy Staff Accountant in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. This role is designed to prepare the selected candidate for a promotion to a District Controller position within the company.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare financial statements for designated operating locations during monthly financial close
  • Reconcile all general ledger accounts
  • Analyze significant financial variances to budget and forecast monthly
  • Complete monthly three-month financial forecast
  • Conduct rate analysis and review
  • Communicate financial information effectively to business counterparts
  • Manage accounting data flow to and from remote facilities
  • Assist with quarterly Sarbanes Oxley compliance and review
  • Participate in the annual financial budget process
  • Train non-financial personnel on internal control compliance and accounting procedures

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • CPA and/or other professional certifications a plus
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel
  • Experience with accounting business systems
