Job Description

Overview

As a Staff Accountant at A.O. Smith, you will be responsible for preparing, examining, and interpreting financial records and statements while ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies. This role involves managing various accounting activities including general ledger maintenance, budgeting, month-end closing, and cost analysis, supporting overall financial integrity within the organization.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct plant expense analysis and report updates
  • Facilitate General Ledger and Cost Center coding of Purchase Requisitions and invoices
  • Prepare bank reconciliations for all operating and balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare specific monthly journal entries and warranty expense account analysis
  • Analyze and reconcile discrepancies within general accounting functions
  • Report on utility use and expenditures for senior management review
  • Settle and close production orders, investigate production variances
  • Provide research assistance and respond to internal inquiries
  • Provide payroll approval and reconcile all expenses to budget
  • Provide daily, weekly, and monthly Operation KPI's
  • Perform other activities as needed

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
  • 1+ year related work experience
  • Familiarity with GAAP, tax laws, and payroll laws
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of accounting software
  • Experience with SAP is a plus
