Job Description

Overview

A.O. Smith is seeking a Staff Accountant to join their team in Appleton, Wisconsin. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and interpreting financial records and reports, conducting analyses, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct plant expense analysis and provide regular updates
  • Facilitate General Ledger and Cost Center coding of Purchase Requisitions and invoices
  • Prepare bank reconciliations for operating, disbursement, payroll, and balance sheet accounts
  • Analyze and reconcile discrepancies in general accounting functions
  • Report on utility use and expenditures, providing analyses for senior management
  • Settle and close production orders, investigate production variances
  • Provide payroll approval and respond to internal inquiries
  • Review purchase orders and update plant manager on exceptions and expenses
  • Reconcile expenses to budget and provide daily, weekly, and monthly Operation KPI's
  • Perform other activities as needed or requested

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
  • 1+ year related work experience
  • Familiarity with GAAP, tax laws, and payroll laws
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and Word
  • Experience with accounting software
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Work experience with accounting preferred
  • SAP knowledge a plus
