Overview

Southeast Steel Systems is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the financial health of their growing manufacturing organization in Gibsonton, Florida. This position will involve diverse responsibilities, including financial reporting, inventory accounting, and compliance with company policies and GAAP, making it ideal for an accounting professional wishing to move beyond transactional duties.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries during monthly and year-end close processes
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations and investigate variances
  • Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger
  • Support compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
  • Assist in developing effective internal controls
  • Support inventory accounting processes and reconciliations
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable for accurate and timely vendor payments
  • Maintain fixed asset records and prepare monthly depreciation entries
  • Prepare and file sales and use tax returns
  • Reconcile payroll-related accounts and accruals
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and controls

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Minimum of 2 years in a manufacturing or related environment
  • Strong understanding of GAAP
  • Experience with account reconciliations and month-end close activities
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
