Job Description

Overview

As a Sr Telecom Engineer at PacifiCorp, you will design, test, and integrate telecommunications and network systems to support reliable electrical operations. This role emphasizes providing technical expertise and leadership within the engineering team, particularly in Optical Transport Networks.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, test, and integrate telecommunications systems.
  • Provision and program telecommunications equipment, including microwave radios and network switches.
  • Provide functional leadership and technical expertise within the engineering team.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, supporting various business units and strategic initiatives.
  • Complete detailed designs and scoping for complex projects.
  • Consult with users to determine system requirements and evaluate feasibility.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors to support systems.
  • Promote safety in the workplace and conduct safety discussions.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Six to eight years of related experience, including technical leadership.
  • Expert level knowledge of telecommunication systems including Circuit Design and Synchronous Optical Networking.
  • Proficiency in Ciena 6500 and 3900 series hardware.
  • Understanding of ITU G.709, G.8032, G.8262, and IEEE 802.3 standards.
  • Effective oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Project management abilities.
