Job Description

Overview

The Senior Quality Engineer at A.O. Smith will lead a quality assurance team to ensure that products meet customer expectations. This role involves supporting production, interacting with suppliers, maintaining ISO 9001 compliance, and mentoring quality staff, while focusing on continuous improvement and root cause analysis.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the quality department's work
  • Utilize statistical tools to analyze suppliers and manufacturing processes
  • Conduct root cause analysis of supplier defects
  • Analyze data and generate reports for management
  • Review quality analysis conclusions and recommend changes to procedures
  • Determine and review supplier PPAPs
  • Liaise with suppliers to address quality issues
  • Prepare and analyze reports on rejected or defective products
  • Lead and direct QA projects and teams
  • Conduct performance evaluations of team members
  • Report serious quality problems to the Quality Assurance Manager

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing and quality supervision
  • ASQ - CQE/CSQP or CQA preferred
  • Master's Degree in Engineering preferred
  • Ability to evaluate and develop quality initiatives
  • Leadership experience
  • Knowledge of quality processes and tools (SPC, Six Sigma, Statistical Analysis)
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Mini-tab
  • Expertise in geometric dimensioning, trigonometry, and tolerance
  • Knowledge of problem-solving approaches (8D or 5P)
  • Ability to read and interpret various documents
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
