Job Description

Overview

The Senior Quality Engineer at A.O. Smith is responsible for leading a quality assurance team to ensure products meet customer expectations. This role involves supporting production, interacting with suppliers, ensuring ISO 9001 compliance, and mentoring other quality employees while driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate work of quality department
  • Utilize statistical tools to analyze suppliers and manufacturing processes
  • Conduct root cause analysis of supplier defects and implement corrective actions
  • Analyze data using computer systems and generate reports for management
  • Review quality analysis conclusions and recommend changes
  • Complete and review supplier PPAPs
  • Liaise with suppliers to address quality issues
  • Prepare reports on rejected and defective products
  • Lead QA projects and teams to meet goals
  • Perform evaluations of technicians and engineers
  • Report serious quality problems to the Quality Assurance Manager

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing and quality roles
  • ASQ - CQE, CSQP, or CQA preferred
  • Master's Degree in Engineering preferred
  • Strong leadership abilities and team development skills
  • Knowledge of quality processes and tools (SPC, Six Sigma)
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Mini-tab
  • Expertise in geometric dimensioning and problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5P)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents
