Job Description

Overview

The Sr. Estimator at Sturgeon Electric plays a key role in the electrical construction process, focusing on preparing cost estimates and responses to RFPs for commercial and industrial projects. This position also involves mentoring Estimators and Trainees while fostering relationships with clients and internal teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare complete labor and material cost estimates
  • Outline and prepare responses to RFPs and RFQs
  • Follow company Standard Operating Procedures for Estimating
  • Develop strategies for project awards
  • Help maintain and develop estimating database
  • Assist other members of the Estimating team
  • Review and evaluate estimating staff performance
  • Coordinate with Project Management
  • Maintain bid log and reporting
  • Prepare bills of material for Purchasing
  • Determine constructability requirements through field evaluations
  • Compare project documents for accuracy
  • Perform field take-offs for estimate preparation
  • Participate in estimate review processes
  • Prepare and submit change orders
  • Follow-up on project closure tasks

Required skills

  • Minimum 5 years of electrical construction estimating experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Estimating experience in industrial, high-tech manufacturing, hospitals, data centers, or wastewater treatment projects
  • Working knowledge of local electrical codes
  • Ability to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, and mechanical plans
  • Working knowledge of electrical materials and installation methods
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Accubid, and other estimating software
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and communication skills
