Overview

As a Sr. Distinguished Machine Learning Engineer at Capital One, you will provide technical leadership for engineering teams focused on productionizing machine learning applications at scale. The role involves detailed technical design, development, and implementation of machine learning applications, guiding architectural decisions, and mentoring other engineers to enhance their skills in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver ML models and software components addressing business challenges in financial services
  • Drive the creation and evolution of ML models and software for intelligent systems
  • Lead large-scale ML initiatives with a customer-focused approach
  • Leverage cloud-based architectures to deliver optimized ML models at scale
  • Optimize data pipelines to support ML models
  • Use programming languages such as Python, Scala, and C/C++
  • Leverage compute technologies like Dask and RAPIDS
  • Evangelize best practices in engineering and modeling lifecycles
  • Help recruit and nurture engineering talent

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10+ years of experience designing and building data-intensive solutions
  • 7+ years of programming experience in C, C++, Python, or Scala
  • 4+ years of experience with the full ML development lifecycle
  • Master's degree (preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience designing, implementing, and scaling data pipelines for ML models
  • 3+ years of experience in High Performance Computing or using Dask and RAPIDS
  • 3+ years of experience with the PyData ecosystem (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn)
  • Strong communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts

  • Salary range: $314,800 - $359,300 for McLean, VA; $286,200 - $326,700 for Plano, TX
