Overview

At Capital One, the Sr. Distinguished Applied Researcher will play a pivotal role in developing trustworthy AI systems to enhance customer experiences in banking. This individual contributor position requires collaboration with a cross-functional team to leverage advanced AI technologies and drive product innovations within the company.

Key responsibilities

  • Partner with a team of data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products.
  • Build AI foundation models through all phases of development, including design, training, evaluation, and implementation.
  • Engage in applied research to push the latest AI developments into customer experiences.
  • Utilize a broad stack of technologies to analyze large volumes of data and extract insights.
  • Translate complex AI concepts into tangible business goals through effective communication.

Required skills

  • PhD or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics or related fields.
  • 6+ years of experience in Applied Research (PhD) or 8+ years (MS).
  • Hands-on experience developing AI foundation models using open-source tools and cloud platforms.
  • Expertise in technologies such as Pytorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, and Lightning.
  • Experience in building large deep learning models and delivering scalable solutions.
