Overview

The Senior Controls Engineering Director at Schneider Packaging Equipment provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the controls and automation engineering department. This role focuses on scaling engineering capabilities, standardizing design practices, and integrating automation technologies with business strategies, contributing significantly to the company's growth and success.

Key responsibilities

  • Define and enforce company-wide controls engineering design standards and safety practices
  • Identify and lead the development of emerging automation technologies and trends
  • Refine engineering processes to maximize production velocity and reduce defects
  • Manage R&D and operational budgets for the controls engineering department
  • Monitor engineering execution across multiple projects for compliance
  • Optimize resource allocation for concurrent machine builds and R&D efforts
  • Serve as the final technical authority for complex engineering challenges
  • Build engineering capabilities through mentorship and education programs
  • Partner with Applications Engineering for pricing models and technical proposals
  • Streamline workflows across applications, design engineering, and manufacturing
  • Act as a senior technical representative in high-stakes customer consultations
  • Oversee the site-acceptance testing framework for customer handovers
  • Travel to customer sites for executive reviews or system resolutions

Required skills

  • BS in electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in design-build capital equipment manufacturing
  • 5+ years of people management experience leading engineering teams
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Expertise in industrial automation architectures, robot simulation, PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems
  • Experience with Rockwell Allen Bradley PLC and HMI platforms
  • Experience with Fanuc robotics platform
  • Knowledge of hardware selection for industrial machinery control
  • Experience with integration into WES, MES, and track and trace systems
  • Industrial vision programming experience (Cognex/Keyance) is a plus
  • Knowledge of relevant codes (NFPA 79, NFPA 70, CE) is a plus
  • Ability to interpret and generate electrical and pneumatic schematics
  • Familiarity with Microsoft platform and design/lifecycle management software
