Job Description

Overview

The Sr Attorney/Assistant General Counsel at PacifiCorp will provide legal assessments and represent the company in regulatory hearings before state public utility commissions in Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. This role includes reviewing legal documents, overseeing outside counsel, and advising management on legal matters, as well as managing a team of legal professionals.

Key responsibilities

  • Represent the company in state regulatory matters including rate cases and resource planning proceedings.
  • Handle informal and formal settlement proceedings, discovery matters, and court hearings.
  • Direct legal segments addressing various issues including claims, litigation, and contract disputes.
  • Assess and mitigate legal risks related to company activities.
  • Establish and maintain policies consistent with legal principles.
  • Consult with outside legal counsel and train less experienced attorneys.
  • Interface with senior management regarding litigation reserves and accruals.

Required skills

  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school
  • Successful completion of the Bar exam in relevant states
  • Minimum of five years legal experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations
  • Project management and leadership skills
  • Minimum of eight years in-house or law firm experience (Assistant General Counsel level)
  • Experience with legal and regulatory issues in the energy industry
  • Strong negotiation and influence skills
