Overview

The Specialty Pharmacy Liaison at UnitedHealth Group in Portland, Oregon, engages directly with patients to coordinate pharmacy services through the health system's specialty and retail pharmacy. This role focuses on improving prescription capture and ensuring clear communication among patients, providers, and the pharmacy, while supporting financial aid and administrative tasks under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Key responsibilities

  • Greet patients upon arrival to the clinic
  • Explain the benefits of the specialty pharmacy and enroll patients into the program
  • Perform insurance benefit investigations and handle prior authorizations
  • Assist patients in finding financial aid for their medications
  • Data entry and verification of patient information
  • Prepare and dispense medications under the supervision of a pharmacist
  • Conduct outbound phone calls for patient support and adherence checks
  • Triaging clinical questions to appropriate clinicians
  • Participate in conferences and workshops to promote CPS

Required skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Registered or ability to become a registered pharmacy technician in Oregon
  • Experience interacting with healthcare professionals in a medical clinic
  • Experience as a pharmacy liaison or technician
  • Experience in a health systems specialty pharmacy
  • Knowledge of benefit investigations and patient financial assistance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, EMR systems (EPIC, Cerner, Meditech), and dispensing systems (QS1, RX30, Computer Rx)
