Overview

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Specialist, Electro-Optical Designer in Waterdown, Ontario. This role involves the design, development, and testing of advanced optical technologies and systems for defense and military applications, supporting mission-critical operations with cutting-edge imaging solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and develop complex Electro-Optical sub-assemblies, including digital and thermal imaging systems.
  • Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) teams, guiding projects from concept to production.
  • Verify design solutions through analyses and testing.
  • Support manufacturing with knowledge transfer and resolution of design issues.
  • Enhance established Electro-Optical modules with design improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure high-quality design outputs.
  • Generate documentation such as analyses summaries, specification documents, and test reports.
  • Develop and test image processing algorithms using Matlab.
  • Present findings at design review meetings and stay updated on industry trends.

Required skills

  • Strong knowledge of optics principles including Laser Systems and Geometrical Optics.
  • Familiarity with image sensor technologies (CCD, CMOS, Thermal Imagers).
  • Proficient in MATLAB or similar programming languages.
  • Understanding of both analog and digital video concepts.
  • Knowledge of Optical Design software (CodeV or Zemax) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with range performance modeling tools (Modtran, NVTherm, SSCam) is an asset.
  • Analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Experience in optics and electronics lab environments.
