Overview

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Specialist, Composites Manufacturing Engineer to join their team at the Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Huntsville, AL. This role involves managing and improving manufacturing processes for composite rocket motor hardware, ensuring operational excellence and compliance with company procedures in a dynamic environment focused on national security.

Key responsibilities

  • Champion process improvement projects using Lean Manufacturing methodologies
  • Support and lead facility transition efforts for inert product lines
  • Plan, develop, initiate, and maintain processes for fabricating advanced composite parts
  • Create work instructions, procedures, PFMEAs, and JSAs to meet quality and safety requirements
  • Provide technical guidance and training to shop floor, design, and management teams
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications for robust part design
  • Interface with support groups for accuracy and safety of processes and quality of hardware
  • Investigate nonconforming hardware and implement corrective actions
  • Present fabrication processes and changes to customers during reviews and meetings

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of engineering experience
  • Graduate Degree and minimum 2 years of engineering experience
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of related engineering experience
  • Surface preparation for bonding rubber or composite materials
  • Hand layup and cure of insulation and composite materials
  • Writing specifications for new equipment
  • Composite rocket motor nozzle fabrication
  • Structural bonding of metallic and composite substrates
  • Programming and operation of composite cure ovens
  • Precision assembly of aerospace hardware
  • Strong GD&T background
  • CAD modeling experience
  • Operation of robots, presses, ovens, winders, CNC machines, and cutting tables
  • Strong cross-functional communication and problem-solving skills
  • Adaptability to changing work environments
