Job Description

Overview

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Specialist, Composites Manufacturing Engineer for their Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Huntsville, AL. This role involves leading process management and improvement for composite rocket motor hardware manufacturing, requiring proficient knowledge in project management and a collaborative approach to operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

  • Champion process improvement projects using Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
  • Support and lead facility transition efforts for inert product lines.
  • Plan, develop, initiate, and maintain processes for the fabrication of advanced composite parts.
  • Create detailed work instructions, procedures, PFMEAs, and JSAs that meet design, process, quality, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to shop floor, design, and management teams.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to develop robust part and tooling designs.
  • Interface with support groups to ensure accuracy, control, and safety in manufacturing processes.
  • Investigate nonconforming hardware and implement corrective actions.
  • Present fabrication processes at customer readiness reviews and process changes at change board meetings.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's Degree with 4 years of related engineering experience or a Graduate Degree with 2 years of related experience
  • 8 years of prior related engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Knowledge of composite materials and aerospace engineering.
  • Experience with surface preparation, hand layup of materials, and structural bonding.
  • Familiarity with programming and operation of composite cure ovens.
  • Strong GD&T background and CAD modeling experience.
  • Experience with manufacturing equipment such as robots, CNC machines, and autoclaves.
  • Strong problem-solving and cross-functional communication skills.
