The curriculum combines Montessori methods with a nature-based philosophy and approach, offering the experience of both a Montessori classroom and significant outdoor time each day.The school's mission is to engage students in experiences that integrate natural environments with the Montessori curriculum, igniting achievement in academic, social-emotional and physical development. Title: Special Education Teacher Immediate Supervisor: Head of SchoolMountain Village Charter School seeks to employ educators with a desire to teach in public, multi-age, classrooms where the Montessori method is aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Ideal candidates have a commitment to Montessori and Nature Based education in a public setting, knowledge of best practices and be trained in Special Education.Qualifications: Special Education certification from an accredited program required. A demonstrated willingness and ability to implement educational best practices in conjunction with the Montessori curriculum and Common Core State Standards. Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and parents. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to plan lessons and keep progress records on students according to individual styles and aptitudes Strong leadership and student management skills. Appreciation for diversity including students with learning disabilities and those from diverse families and socio-economic situations. An open-mind and sense of humor. NH teacher certificationEssential Duties and Responsibilities: This position directly supports and administers all IEP services on site and provides additional interventions and classroom support as needed. Collaborate with lower and upper elementary classroom teachers and assistants in facilitation of Individual Education Plan requirements Carefully observe and keep daily records on each student's individual progression through the classroom, always being available to offer gentle guidance toward self directed learning Plan and prepare, lessons, and "works" in conjunction with the core standards and the Individual Education Plan requirements Support accommodations or modifications as stated by Individual Education Plan or 504 plans Submit progress reports 3x/year (fall, winter, spring) Works to develop close and effective relationships with parents, including opportunities to discuss and understand the child's individual progress; encourages them to bond with both the class and the larger school community; provides individualized tracking of student progress. Follows the school's policies and procedures for student evaluation and record keeping, meeting all due dates as required Assesses the needs of the students and prepares requests for materials as needed Demonstrate a strong commitment to professional ethics. Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Montessori education; model the Montessori values of grace, courtesy, respect and responsibility in visible daily actions. Phrase directives positively when speaking to children. Demonstrate commitment to competent communications and conflict resolution efforts across the school community.
