Overview

The Special Education Teacher at Howard University Public Charter Middle School will organize and implement a technology-based learning environment tailored to students with IEPs and 504 Plans. The teacher will be responsible for fostering a culture of high achievement and collaboration, ensuring students develop their academic potential in mathematics and other subjects.

Key responsibilities

  • Create a classroom culture of high achievement and student ownership of learning
  • Support middle school students in mathematics by collaborating with general education teachers
  • Provide daily instruction with clear learning outcomes and well-designed lessons
  • Incorporate creative, hands-on learning experiences into lessons
  • Maintain a visually appealing classroom environment rich with resources
  • Communicate with students and families about talents, interests, and progress
  • Collaborate with school staff to enhance student learning experiences
  • Write and implement SMART goals for IEPs and 504 plans
  • Maintain documentation related to IDEA requirements

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Two years of Special Education teaching experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Completion of content area ETS Praxis II Exam or valid Special Education Teaching License or degree in a content area
