Overview

Freedom Academy Inc is seeking a dedicated Special Education Director for their small, student-centered charter school in Phoenix, Arizona. This experienced leader will oversee the special education program, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and support for students with diverse learning needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local special education laws and regulations
  • Oversee development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation for audit readiness and legal compliance
  • Lead and support SPED staff, including teachers and service providers
  • Provide training and guidance on compliance, best practices, and legal requirements
  • Collaborate with general education staff, administration, and families
  • Monitor student progress and program effectiveness
  • Coordinate evaluations, eligibility determinations, and IEP meetings
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for compliance-related matters
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment

Required skills

  • Valid Arizona Special Education certification
  • Prior leadership or administrative experience in special education
  • Extensive knowledge of special education law, including IDEA, ADA, and Section 504
  • Experience ensuring compliance and managing SPED documentation
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills with staff, families, and external stakeholders
