Overview

Are you passionate about applying AI and compilation techniques to automate legal contract processing at AWS scale? The AWS Contract Onboarding team is looking for a Software Development Engineer to build systems that parse, interpret, and ingest Private Pricing Agreements - enabling AWS to bill customers accurately and sign contracts faster. You'll work with LLMs, distributed event pipelines, and customer-facing consoles processing billions of dollars in AWS revenue.Key job responsibilitiesAs a Software Development Engineer, you will own all aspects of the software development lifecycle - design, architecture, implementation, testing, and operations. Your team builds systems to capture contractual data from AWS Private Pricing Agreements in electronic format, enabling automated billing at global scale.In this role, you will - Design and build contract parsing and term extraction pipelines using AI/LLM techniques.- Own and operate distributed systems processing confidential contractual data under demanding SLAs.- Build event-driven architectures using AWS services (Lambda, Step Functions, SQS, DynamoDB).- Collaborate with Product Managers and partner engineering teams to define scope and technical direction.- Contribute to planning, design, implementation, testing, operations, and process improvement.- Write high-quality, testable code in Java, Kotlin, Python, and TypeScript.- Build highly available, secure systems at Amazon scale.- Mentor and support the growth of other developers.A day in the lifeOn a typical day, you might design an LLM extraction pipeline for a new contract type, debug a distributed event processing issue, review a teammate's architecture for a customer-facing API, or deep-dive into billing data to validate that automated discounts are applied correctly. You'll collaborate across and ship features that directly impact how AWS customers are billed. We move fast, own what we build, and measure our impact in contracts automated per day.About the teamThe Contract Onboarding team builds tools and services to auto-generate and auto-ingest AWS Private Pricing Agreements. We enable the AWS Billing organization to sign contracts faster, compute bills accurately, and apply customized discounts - enhancing the experience for AWS's largest customers. Our systems combine AI/LLM-powered contract parsing, distributed event processing, and customer-facing consoles to automate what was previously a manual, error-prone process. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design- Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence- Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent- Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers- Experience in machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, statistics or natural language processing, or experience with Machine Learning and Large Language Model fundamentals, including architecture, training/inference lifecycles, and optimization of model execution- Experience designing, building, operating, and managing large-scale distributed systems or web services- Experience building rich data-driven web applications by consuming RESTful services and APIsAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
