Job Description

Overview

Johnson Controls is seeking a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to support federal operations in the Norfolk, VA area. The SSHO will be responsible for implementing safety programs, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards across various construction sites.

Key responsibilities

  • Implement the Site/Task Specific Safety Program at designated locations
  • Create Site Specific Accident Prevention Plans (APP) & Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA)
  • Authorize procurement of project safety supplies and oversee safety training for employees and subcontractors
  • Conduct daily safety and health inspections and mishap investigations
  • Maintain OSHA Form 300 and track safety deficiencies
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety requirements
  • Lead the local Office Safety Committee and facilitate safety execution
  • Travel between various sites as required

Required skills

  • 30-hr OSHA Construction Safety Class within the last 5 years
  • Construction safety inspection and administration experience
  • Five years of continuous experience with construction safety preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to travel 25%
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances
  • Understanding of OSHA, USACE safety regulations, NAVFAC, ANSI, NFPA 70-E
  • Experience with HVAC and refrigeration maintenance safety
  • EM 385-1-1 certification
