Job Description

Overview

The Shop Foreman at GFL Environmental is responsible for leading a team of technicians to ensure the operational reliability of a large fleet of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. This hands-on leadership role involves technical work, administrative tasks, and a commitment to safety and compliance in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor service personnel by assigning work orders and directing daily shop activities
  • Coordinate equipment release for inspections and service to minimize downtime
  • Plan and schedule repairs using the TMW Planning system
  • Oversee inventory management and the division's tire program
  • Manage monthly purchase orders and execute Month-End reporting with precision
  • Authorize purchases and coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs
  • Ensure compliance with GFL, DOT, and FMCSA standards through meticulous record-keeping
  • Evaluate and report on accident damage for insurance and safety claims
  • Assist in hiring, training, and monitoring technician performance
  • Act as primary contact and Acting Supervisor in the absence of the Maintenance Manager

Required skills

  • Advanced mechanical and troubleshooting skills for diesel engines and hydraulics
  • Familiarity with Vehicle Inspection program and DOT safety regulations
  • Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office and fleet management software (TMW)
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Valid driver's license (Class A or B CDL preferred)
