Job Description

Overview

The Shear Operator at Gulf Island is responsible for operating shear cutters in the fabrication shop to provide cut materials for the pre-fabrication of generator enclosures. This role involves ensuring precise cuts, following safety procedures, interpreting technical drawings, and collaborating with team members to meet production deadlines.

Key responsibilities

  • Set, adjust and operate shear cutter for specific material types, lengths, and widths
  • Ensure clean, accurate cuts with minimal burr
  • Safely operate machines according to trained procedures
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, work orders, and blueprints
  • Select proper tooling and dies for jobs and perform necessary adjustments
  • Inspect parts during and after production for specification conformance
  • Monitor machines to ensure optimum performance
  • Maintain equipment through troubleshooting and cleaning
  • Follow established safety procedures and maintain an organized workspace
  • Collaborate with team members to meet production schedules
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Required skills

  • 1+ years experience operating a shear cutter
  • Ability to read a tape measure
  • Understanding of manufacturing operations and blueprint reading
  • Familiarity with safety procedures and quality control
  • Team collaboration and time management skills
  • Basic troubleshooting capabilities
