Overview

The Service Technician / Heavy Duty Mechanic at SWS Equipment is responsible for the installation, repair, troubleshooting, maintenance, and retrofitting of customers' equipment, particularly refuse machinery. This role requires direct customer interaction both on-site and in-shop, ensuring a high-quality service experience while adhering to safety protocols.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform system and component installations and repairs
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues on-site or in the shop
  • Read and follow hydraulic and electrical schematic drawings
  • Prepare new equipment for customer delivery
  • Provide customer guidance for equipment improvement
  • Assemble, test, and service systems and components
  • Manage workflow to meet customer deadlines
  • Complete necessary paperwork for billing and documentation
  • Travel to job sites as needed, up to 25% of the time

Required skills

  • Journeyman-level experience in mechanical repair
  • Proficiency with technology and technical systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Experience with welding processes and techniques
  • Familiarity with electrical and hydraulic schematics
  • Comprehensive set of hand tools required
  • Experience with refuse trucks preferred
  • CDL Class A or B certification strongly preferred
