Overview

Shields Pharma Inc. is seeking a Senior Synthetic Organic Chemist to join their team in Markham, Ontario. The company specializes in laboratory R&D and QC testing services, focusing on the production of psychedelic therapeutics for mental health treatment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in organic chemistry, particularly in small molecule and carbohydrate synthesis.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and execute R&D projects independently
  • Perform laboratory tests to produce reliable and precise data
  • Design and execute experimental setups following strict methodologies
  • Analyze and characterize organic chemistry molecules using various techniques
  • Ensure compliance with cGMP, quality, and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with Good Documentation Practices
  • Conduct multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring attention to detail
  • Maintain a safe and organized laboratory work area

Required skills

  • Sound knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry transformations
  • Experience with liquid-liquid extractions and column chromatography
  • Proficiency in analytical techniques including FT-IR, UV, HPLC, LC/MS, GC
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of USP, BP, EP, and JP methods
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements including FDA CFR 211 and ICH guidelines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • M.Sc. with minimum 2 years experience or B.Sc. with minimum 3 years experience in relevant fields
