Job Description

Overview

The Senior Staff Accountant at Springer Publishing Company is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the company's financial records and reporting. This role involves overseeing key accounting functions, supporting the monthly close process, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and financial standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
  • Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for assigned accounting areas.
  • Manage product-level profit and loss reporting and analyze actual results versus budget and forecast.
  • Reconcile accounts receivable, inventory, capital investments, and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Process payroll through ADP Workforce Now and maintain payroll records.
  • Oversee accounts payable activities and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
  • Assist with internal and external audits and maintain internal controls.
  • Support accounting system implementations and process improvement initiatives.

Required skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • Experience with ERP or accounting systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, or SAP
  • Strong analytical and variance analysis capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead accounting projects and process improvement initiatives
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience
