Job Description

Overview

The Senior Staff Accountant at the Southwest Organizing Project (SWOP) plays a critical role in managing the organization's financial tasks, ensuring accurate financial records and compliance. This position involves collaboration with the Finance team and other departments, reporting directly to the Director of Finance.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct intercompany transactions
  • Reconcile bank accounts for SWOP and subsidiaries
  • Prepare Financial Statements
  • Maintain SWOP Accounting System (QuickBooks) accurate and current
  • Generate, review, and update monthly P&L reports
  • Prepare monthly expense reports for government funded grants
  • Reconcile credit cards
  • Maintain Accounts Receivable current
  • Assist Director of Finance with budgets and revisions
  • Prepare and make bank deposits weekly
  • Support Director of Finance with internal annual audit preparation
  • Ensure compliance with internal accounting procedures and controls

Required skills

  • CPA certification or five years of bookkeeping experience
  • Experience with non-profit organizations
  • Familiarity with non-profit federal grants compliance (GATA)
  • SEFA experience
  • QuickBooks proficiency
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred
  • Experience with grant reporting
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural setting
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends
