Overview

Porter, Carswell & Raya Chartered is looking for a detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant to join their team in Valley Center, Kansas. The role involves assisting in audits, tax return preparation, and financial statement preparation, providing a chance to gain hands-on experience in public accounting and to grow within the firm.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in audit and assurance engagements, including fieldwork, testing, and report preparation
  • Perform substantive testing and analytical procedures
  • Maintain organized workpapers and ensure proper documentation of audit and review findings
  • Prepare and review individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns (Federal and State)
  • Perform account reconciliations and general ledger analysis
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Support clients with bookkeeping, payroll processing, and other accounting services
  • Communicate with clients to obtain information and resolve issues
  • Support senior staff and partners with special projects and research tasks as needed

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in public accounting or related field
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and basic tax principles
  • Proficiency in accounting and tax software (e.g. QuickBooks)
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
