Overview

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Senior Specialist in System Safety to join their Supportability Team in Waterdown, Ontario. This role focuses on ensuring the safety and reliability of advanced optical sensor and targeting systems vital for defense and military operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and a passion for system safety, contributing to various safety engineering tasks and initiatives.

Key responsibilities

  • Promote System Safety awareness throughout the business
  • Decompose customer requirements related to System Safety
  • Support Bids and Proposal activities for System Safety analysis
  • Define System Safety requirements and risks for each project
  • Collaborate with the design team to achieve System Safety requirements
  • Review vendor documentation and challenge supplier analysis
  • Conduct System Safety Hazard Analysis and Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
  • Perform Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and support RAM analysis when required
  • Create Safety & Environmental Program Plans and Safety Case Reports
  • Mentor junior employees

Required skills

  • Experience in Safety Engineering and System Safety
  • Technical expertise in analyzing complex systems
  • Knowledge of relevant safety standards (e.g., MIL-STD-882, DO-178)
  • Familiarity with electrical/electronic circuit analysis
  • Experience with electro-mechanical motion control equipment
  • Familiarity with laser classification and safety standards (ANSI, FDA)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree with 6 years of relevant experience or graduate degree with 4 years of experience in aerospace/defense
