Overview

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Senior Specialist, Mechanical Engineer in Waterdown, Ontario. In this role, you will be responsible for the mechanical design and analysis of complex opto-mechanical and electromechanical systems, ensuring the delivery of high-quality technology solutions for defense and national security.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and analyze complex opto-mechanical and electromechanical products from concept through production using CAD and analysis tools.
  • Perform innovation and suggest improvements to systems and cost reductions.
  • Complete complex engineering assignments requiring specialized knowledge.
  • Serve as a major technical contributor or lead on project goals and objectives.
  • Contribute to departmental best practices and design approaches.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to other staff.
  • Participate in design reviews as presenter or reviewer.
  • Support verification and validation of new product designs.
  • Keep updated with mechanical industry trends and relevant new technologies.

Required skills

  • Proficient in FEA for static and dynamics analysis, preferably Ansys.
  • Proficient in CFD analysis, preferably Ansys.
  • Advanced knowledge of 3D CAD systems, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Experience with MATLAB Simulink, Simscape, or equivalent for multiphysics simulation.
  • Extensive knowledge of drawing standards and mechanical design practices.
  • Well versed in mechanical dynamics, vibration, strength of materials, and classical analysis methods.
  • Knowledge of opto-mechanical design principles and manufacturing techniques.
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping techniques and Materials Science.
  • Strong communication skills and technical report preparation abilities.
  • Self-motivated and able to learn in a fast-paced environment.
