Overview

The Senior Project Accountant at Lutheran Social Services of WI & UP MI will support the financial management of rental properties under the direction of the Project Accounting Manager. This role involves meticulous recording of income and expenses, preparing financial reports, and leading project audits, while working closely with the General Accounting and Financial Services teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Record all rental income and related expenses for HUD and LIHTC properties
  • Lead HUD and LIHTC audits for assigned properties
  • Generate financial reports such as income statements and balance sheets
  • Collaborate with property managers to resolve issues in tenant subledgers
  • Prepare and record monthly intercompany billing
  • Maintain adherence to GAAP and oversee cash management
  • Assist in preparing the LSS consolidated annual financial audits
  • Participate in the budgeting process and forecast financial performance
  • Create and maintain internal control procedures and employee training

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3+ years of experience in financial accounting and/or auditing
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting and financial reporting
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including v-lookups and pivot tables
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to mentor colleagues and provide customer support
  • Proficient in accounting software and financial applications
