Overview

The Senior Project Accountant at Lutheran Social Services of WI & UP MI will manage financial operations related to rental properties, supporting the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) properties. This role involves meticulous record-keeping, financial reporting, budgeting, and collaboration with various teams to ensure compliance and optimal financial performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Record all rental income and related expenses for HUD and LIHTC properties
  • Collaborate with property managers to resolve tenant subledger issues
  • Prepare and record monthly intercompany billing for project expenses
  • Lead HUD and LIHTC audits for assigned properties
  • Generate financial reports including income statements and cash flow statements
  • Maintain adherence to GAAP accounting principles in financial reporting
  • Assist in the budgeting process and forecasting cash flows
  • Provide guidance to finance team members as needed

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3+ years of financial accounting or auditing experience
  • Strong technical skills in GAAP accounting and financial reporting
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including v-lookups and pivot tables
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to mentor and support colleagues
  • Knowledge of accounting software and financial applications
