Job Description

Overview

The Senior Principal Electrical Engineer for FPGA Design at Raytheon will take on a leadership role in the architecture and design of FPGA-based systems. The position requires a strong background in VHDL design for complex applications and involves collaboration with circuit card designers and systems engineers to deliver innovative solutions in defense technology.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead FPGA-based systems architecture and design
  • Oversee design delivery from initial proof of concept to production
  • Establish processes and operational plans for projects
  • Drive projects independently to meet schedules
  • Design and verify complex configurable logic solutions
  • Translate system-level requirements into FPGA requirements
  • Conduct troubleshooting and root cause investigations
  • Create comprehensive documentation including requirements and verification plans
  • Coach and delegate to junior engineers
  • Support technical reviews and customer interactions

Required skills

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
  • System-level FPGA requirements and architecture development
  • FPGA/ASIC design in VHDL or Verilog
  • Experience with Xilinx or Microsemi devices
  • Proposal experience including estimate generation and scheduling
  • Understanding of design hand-off requirements
  • Experience in gigabit serial interfaces and multi-gigabit transceivers
  • Project management skills
  • Experience with assertion-based verification and UVM
  • Knowledge of revision control and documentation release processes
