Job Description

Overview

Raytheon is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer, specializing in Paint and Plating, to support product design and production for military and defense applications in Tucson, Arizona. The role requires extensive expertise in corrosion prevention, process optimization, and supplier collaboration, with responsibilities including designing painting procedures and establishing inspection processes.

Key responsibilities

  • Support all phases of product design and production for military and defense applications
  • Develop and approve paint, coatings, and surface finishing processes
  • Conduct failure analysis and report writing
  • Assess supplier capabilities and establish inspection processes
  • Train operators and inspectors on painting procedures and processes
  • Travel for up to 50% of the time, both domestically and internationally

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in painting, coatings, plating, and surface finishing
  • Experience in metallurgy and protective corrosion coatings
  • Knowledge of military and commercial paint and plating specifications
  • Hands-on painting experience with military or commercial hardware
  • Experience as a technical liaison between engineering, manufacturing, and quality organizations
  • Familiarity with Design of Experiments, Six Sigma, and statistical techniques
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
