Job Description

Overview

MGI is looking for a Senior Estimator to lead the estimating function for aerospace and defense machining and sheet-metal projects. This role involves building a new Estimating Department and assumes quoting responsibilities, requiring strong leadership and technical expertise in cost estimation and machine-shop operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Review RFQs, drawings, and specifications to understand project scope
  • Develop detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and machining time
  • Calculate run times for CNC machining and sheet metal fabrication
  • Prepare formal customer quotes within deadlines
  • Analyze historical data and market trends for pricing decisions
  • Serve as the primary estimating contact for customers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers and suppliers
  • Lead the creation of a new Estimating Department with processes and templates
  • Train and mentor junior staff
  • Collaborate on pricing strategy and long-term quoting strategy

Required skills

  • 10+ years of aerospace/defense estimating experience
  • Expertise in CNC machining and sheet metal fabrication
  • Experience quoting for defense prime contractors
  • Strong understanding of machine shop operations
  • Ability to interpret aerospace blueprints, models, and BOMs
  • Knowledge of outside processing techniques
  • Leadership experience in mentoring or managing a team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and estimating/ERP systems
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
