Job Description

Overview

MGI is looking for a Senior Estimator to lead its new Estimating Department focused on aerospace and defense machining and sheet-metal projects. The ideal candidate will have substantial estimating experience, particularly with defense prime contractors, and will be responsible for managing the entire quoting process while collaborating with various departments to ensure manufacturability.

Key responsibilities

  • Review RFQs, drawings, and specifications to understand project scope
  • Develop detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and machining time
  • Prepare formal customer quotes within deadlines
  • Analyze historical data and industry benchmarks for pricing support
  • Serve as primary estimating contact for customers
  • Lead the creation of Estimating Department processes and workflows
  • Train and mentor junior staff
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on pricing strategy and capacity planning

Required skills

  • 10+ years of aerospace/defense estimating experience
  • Direct experience estimating for defense prime contractors
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining and sheet metal fabrication
  • Ability to read aerospace blueprints and technical specifications
  • Knowledge of outside processing techniques
  • Leadership experience in mentoring or managing teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and estimating or ERP/MRP systems
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
