Job Description

Overview

MGI is looking for a Senior Estimator to lead the development of a new Estimating Department for complex aerospace and defense machining and sheet-metal projects. The role involves significant leadership responsibilities and requires extensive experience in estimating for defense prime contractors.

Key responsibilities

  • Review RFQs, drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to understand project scope.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates including material, labor, machining time, tooling, and subcontracted services.
  • Calculate accurate run times for CNC machining and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Prepare formal customer quotes within required deadlines.
  • Analyze historical data and market trends to support pricing decisions.
  • Serve as the primary estimating contact for customers and maintain strong relationships.
  • Lead the creation of a new Estimating Department, including processes and workflows.
  • Train, mentor, and guide junior staff.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on pricing strategy and capacity planning.

Required skills

  • 10+ years of aerospace/defense estimating experience
  • Experience with CNC machining and sheet metal fabrication
  • Understanding of machine shop operations and manufacturing workflows
  • Ability to read aerospace blueprints, models, GD&T, BOMs, and technical specifications
  • Knowledge of outside processing techniques
  • Leadership experience managing an estimating team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and estimating or ERP/MRP systems
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and time-management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of supplier terms and defense-industry compliance requirements
