Overview

The Senior Director, Portfolio Management at National Bank of Canada will lead a team of underwriting professionals within the Commercial Banking sector, focusing on achieving growth while managing risk. The role involves collaboration with various teams to ensure effective credit underwriting, manage existing portfolios, and develop financing solutions that meet client needs while adhering to the bank's risk appetite.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and coach a team of underwriters, providing direct feedback and upskilling opportunities.
  • Support the growth of an existing portfolio of commercial lending relationships.
  • Assess existing and potential clients to ensure alignment with the bank's offerings and risk appetite.
  • Manage and review credit applications, ensuring they comply with internal policies.
  • Occasionally author credit applications for complex transactions.
  • Assist the underwriting team in presenting credit applications and developing financing scenarios.
  • Coordinate discussions with Credit Risk Management.
  • Monitor the loan portfolio for alignment with established parameters.
  • Collaborate with adjacent teams to ensure conditions are met prior to funding.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, economics, finance or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in commercial banking
  • Experience in leading high-performing credit underwriting teams
  • Exceptional commercial credit analysis skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and persuasive credit writing
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • English language proficiency
