Job Description

Overview

The Foundation for the National Institute of Health (FNIH) is seeking a Senior Data Officer (SDO) to lead the organization's data strategy, governance, and infrastructure. This executive role will ensure that data is a trusted, secure, and high-value asset across all programs and partnerships, overseeing scalable data systems for effective integration and reuse across scientific initiatives.

Key responsibilities

  • Define and lead the organization's enterprise data strategy aligned with scientific priorities
  • Establish long-term roadmaps for data infrastructure, interoperability, and scalability
  • Develop and implement enterprise-wide data governance frameworks
  • Ensure compliance with privacy, security, and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee design and implementation of modern data architecture and cloud-based platforms
  • Ensure harmonized integration of heterogeneous data types
  • Support responsible and scalable use of AI/ML across the organization
  • Enable secure, compliant, and efficient data sharing across public-private partnerships
  • Build trust with external partners through strong data governance
  • Drive a culture of data quality, accountability, and stewardship
  • Communicate data strategy and progress to executive leadership
  • Represent the organization in external forums on data governance

Required skills

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MD, MS, or equivalent) in data science or related field
  • 15+ years of experience in data leadership roles
  • Experience building and scaling large, complex data platforms
  • Expertise in data governance and regulatory compliance
  • Experience in complex, multi-institutional data environments
  • Familiarity with real-world data sources and common data models
  • Experience enabling AI/ML at scale within an enterprise data environment
  • Experience in public-private partnerships or multi-stakeholder collaborations
