Job Description: Amazon's Legal Department is looking for an experienced Senior Corporate Counsel construction attorney to support Amazon Web Services (AWS) with our rapidly growing data center construction needs.AWS is at the forefront of the cloud computing industry, providing IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services, AI services and more.This attorney will support the AWS Infrastructure teams responsible for the design and construction of AWS data centers and related infrastructure across AMER by drafting and negotiating construction and consultant contracts; developing and implementing compliance and training programs; and creating efficient contracting workflows. The role includes working directly with business and partner teams to provide day-to-day advice, resolve vendor management issues, and handle pre-litigation disputes. In this role, you will also interact with our Procurement, Public Policy, Public Relations, Finance, Compliance and Tax teams, as well as manage outside counsel. Amazon offers its attorneys the opportunity to develop their experience and career with one of the world's most recognized and dynamic brands.Key job responsibilities- Draft and negotiate sophisticated construction and consultant contracts for AWS infrastructure projects- Develop comprehensive compliance and training programs that align legal requirements with business objectives- Provide strategic legal counsel to infrastructure teams, resolving vendor management challenges and pre-litigation disputes- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Procurement, Public Policy, Public Relations, Finance, Compliance and Tax teams- Manage external counsel relationships and optimize contracting workflows- Occasional travel throughout the U.S. and internationallyA day in the lifeYour day will be dynamic and impactful, collaborating with cross-functional teams to navigate complex legal landscapes. You'll engage in strategic contract negotiations, develop compliance frameworks, and provide nuanced legal guidance that transforms potential challenges into seamless operational solutions.About the teamOur legal team at AWS is a collaborative powerhouse dedicated to enabling technological advancement through strategic legal support. We work closely with infrastructure, procurement, and business teams to create innovative legal solutions that drive AWS's global expansion.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent- 10+ years of post bar admission legal experience- Experience in Construction Law- Experience handling ambiguous or undefined challenges through strong problem solving abilities- Experience working with and influencing senior level stakeholders- Experience in written and verbal communication skills to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership- Experience with engineering, construction, and infrastructure contractsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Experience working independently and directly with all levels of legal and business partners or equivalent- Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers- Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work- Experience managing and coordinating multiple projects simultaneously- Experience developing and delivering presentations to large and diverse audiences- Experience managing legal teamsAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
