Job Description

Overview

Pacific Life is seeking a Senior Actuary to join its Enterprise Valuation team in Newport Beach, CA, Omaha, NE, or Charlotte, NC. The role is critical for managing quarter-end calculations under a GAAP accounting framework for the life insurance business and providing insights to key stakeholders to support the organization's growth and long-term success.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the GAAP Director in managing the quarter-end deliverables
  • Perform quarterly calculations of GAAP balances for various life insurance products
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on GAAP impacts due to economic or business changes
  • Educate senior management on GAAP impacts and expectations
  • Provide coaching and training to team members
  • Ensure compliance with internal and regulatory GAAP processes
  • Act as a point of contact for internal and external audit requests
  • Identify opportunities to improve GAAP metrics, analytics, and insights
  • Develop solutions for ad-hoc and sensitivity analyses
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects in the Valuation area

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, Mathematics, Finance, Economics, or Data Science
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation
  • 6+ years of actuarial experience
  • Experience with actuarial modeling systems such as FIS Prophet
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Effective time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Familiarity with US GAAP and/or Targeted Improvements requirements
  • Prior valuation experience
