Overview

Colgate University is seeking a Scientific Instrument Specialist to manage and maintain scientific instruments and equipment for the chemistry department. This role involves preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and collaboration with faculty to ensure effective laboratory operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and routine maintenance of departmental instrumentation and equipment.
  • Repair instruments and laboratory equipment, coordinating with vendor service engineers as needed.
  • Troubleshoot instrument and equipment problems in collaboration with faculty and staff.
  • Evaluate, procure, and install new or upgraded instrumentation and related equipment.
  • Maintain records of instruments, equipment, and maintenance history.
  • Liaise with ITS for installation and troubleshooting of computers associated with instrumentation.
  • Ensure adherence to laboratory safety policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support faculty and students in the proper use of instruments and equipment.
  • Monitor building infrastructure to prevent issues affecting instrument operation.

Required skills
