Job Description

Overview

The Mendham Township Board of Education is seeking a full-time School Bus Driver responsible for transporting pupils safely and efficiently. The driver will also conduct safety inspections, maintain order on the bus, and ensure compliance with traffic laws and school regulations.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-trip safety inspections and complete the School Bus Condition Report
  • Notify the Transportation Supervisor of mechanical malfunctions and safety hazards
  • Perform daily interior cleaning of the bus and exterior cleaning as needed
  • Adhere to established routes and discharge students only at authorized stops
  • Ensure all students have left the bus at the end of the route
  • Obey all traffic laws and school bus safety regulations
  • Report accidents and pupil injuries immediately
  • Maintain discipline among students on the bus
  • Participate in emergency evacuation drills and instruct passengers on safety regulations
  • Exercise responsible leadership on out-of-district trips

Required skills

  • Valid New Jersey Commercial Driver's License with Passenger, Air Brake, and 'S' endorsements
  • Safe driving experience as determined by the board
  • Mechanical aptitude to diagnose minor problems
  • CPR certification within 60 days of hire
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and school bus regulations
