Overview

The Safety Management System (SMS) Coordinator at Onboard Systems Inc in Anaheim, CA is responsible for maintaining and administering the company's SMS program to ensure compliance with aviation safety regulations, particularly FAA Part 5. The role involves analyzing safety data, coordinating safety initiatives, and promoting a proactive safety culture within the organization.

Key responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain the Safety Management System (SMS) in compliance with FAA Part 5 regulations
  • Advise leadership on safety-related matters and support a proactive safety culture
  • Manage the safety reporting process, including analysis and reporting of safety data
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments, recommending corrective actions as needed
  • Investigate incidents and prepare reports to prevent recurrence
  • Serve as the primary liaison with aviation regulatory authorities and safety organizations
  • Develop and coordinate the company Emergency Response Plan
  • Lead safety review meetings and support EHS initiatives
  • Provide regular safety performance updates to management
  • Collaborate with Quality and Operations teams to integrate safety into company processes

Required skills

  • Safety Management System (SMS) certification and experience in aviation or safety-sensitive environments
  • Minimum two years of experience in Safety Management, Engineering, Compliance, or a related field
  • Internal Auditor certification or experience conducting audits and compliance reports
  • Knowledge of aviation safety principles and human factors
  • Familiarity with FAA regulations, OSHA requirements, and labor code compliance
  • Experience with ISO 9001 or other quality management systems
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical and reporting capabilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
