Job Description

Overview

Wegmans is hiring a Safety and Security Officer in Ithaca, NY, to ensure the safety of customers and employees while fostering a positive shopping environment. This role requires an independent and task-oriented individual who can work closely with both the Asset Protection team and store leadership, while maintaining a strong focus on customer service.

Key responsibilities

  • Prioritize safety in stores to create a positive environment
  • Analyze trends and data to maximize sales and minimize loss due to theft
  • Monitor activity to prevent loss, including apprehending and processing shoplifters
  • Foster collaborative relationships with community partners and emergency responders
  • Coordinate and manage the use of Closed-Circuit TV (CCTV) systems
  • Respond to emergency situations, providing support and guidance
  • Conduct investigations as directed by leadership

Required skills

  • 1+ years experience as a sworn police officer with arrest authority
  • Valid license to carry a firearm
  • Valid driver's license
  • Conflict management and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound judgement and ability to manage conflict under pressure
  • Effective communication skills in stressful environments
  • Strong technical aptitude, including proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field (preferred)
  • Related experience in security and/or loss prevention
  • Emergency Medical Services (EMS) or First Responder experience
  • Leadership experience in a retail setting
