Overview

Northern Illinois Hospice is seeking a detail-oriented Revenue Cycle Accountant / Billing Specialist to support its hospice and palliative care services. The role involves managing billing processes and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, all in a fully onsite setting.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee hospice and palliative care billing, including accounts receivable and collections
  • Prepare, submit, and resolve claims with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers
  • Investigate denials, manage appeals, and resolve underpayments
  • Monitor AR aging, unbilled claims, and accounts over 90 days
  • Produce monthly revenue and AR reports
  • Ensure compliance with Medicare, hospice regulations, and HIPAA requirements
  • Reconcile EMR and accounting systems while maintaining audit-ready documentation
  • Respond to patient and family billing questions

Required skills

  • 2 years of direct Room & Board billing experience in a healthcare setting
  • Strong working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance billing
  • Proficiency with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting (preferred)
