Overview

Ochsner Health System is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for a PRN position working days at St. Bernard Parish Hospital in Chalmette, Louisiana. The role involves providing respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, and diagnostic tests to patients across all age groups, from neonatal to geriatric. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic healthcare environment, contributing to the well-being of patients through various respiratory therapies and diagnostic procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment and oxygen services to in-patients and out-patients.
  • Set up, monitor, and wean patients off oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation.
  • Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs.
  • Deliver intermittent therapy and assist with changing artificial airways.
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans.
  • Document all clinical information regarding each patient.
  • Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures according to established policies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and standards.

Required skills

  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
  • Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Computer skills for data entry and retrieval
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adapt communication style to diverse patient populations
