Job Description

Overview

Ochsner Health System is seeking a PRN Respiratory Therapist to provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to patients of all ages. The role involves monitoring and weaning oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation, drawing and analyzing arterial blood gases, and delivering intermittent therapy as per physician orders, all while adhering to established policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures according to established policy and procedure
  • Monitor and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation
  • Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans
  • Perform diagnostic procedures and document clinical information regarding patients
  • Maintain professional certifications and up-to-date knowledge of technical procedures
  • Attend staff meetings and perform other related duties as required

Required skills

  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
  • Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification (for NICU therapists)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification to be obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications and data entry
