Overview

Ochsner Health System is seeking a Respiratory Therapist - PRN to provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to patients of all ages. The role involves essential duties such as monitoring oxygen therapy, performing diagnostic procedures, and educating patients and co-workers on treatment plans within a healthcare setting.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment and oxygen services to patients.
  • Monitor and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation.
  • Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs.
  • Assist with changing artificial airways as per physician orders.
  • Educate patients and co-workers on respiratory procedures and treatment plans.
  • Document clinical information regarding each patient.
  • Maintain professional certifications and knowledge of technical procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings and comply with regulations and standards.

Required skills

  • Associate's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification (if applicable).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification (within 90 days of hire).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills for data entry and patient information retrieval.
