Overview

Ochsner Health System is seeking a PRN Respiratory Therapist to provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to patients of all ages. The role involves monitoring and managing oxygen therapy, performing diagnostic procedures, and educating patients and colleagues on treatment plans while adhering to established policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care treatment and diagnostic testing to patients.
  • Monitor and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation.
  • Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs.
  • Educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans.
  • Maintain professional certifications and knowledge of technical procedures.
  • Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures according to policies.
  • Document all clinical information regarding each patient.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.

Required skills

  • Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice.
  • Credentialed as a Certified Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification (for NICU therapists).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (within 90 days of hire).
  • Computer skills for data entry and retrieval.
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
